Criminal Justice Evolution Podcast: Solo Episode: Trigger Warning: Memento Mori

Hello everyone and welcome back to this Solo episode on the CJEvolution Podcast. Thank you all for listening and supporting the show. Check out the YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/@cjevolutionpodcast  A big thank you to all the criminal justice professionals who are serving. Always remember you are honored, cherished and loved. Keep doing what you are doing and be safe. I struggled. I was in a dark place for a long time. I was in pain, and I masked it with alcohol.  I was contemplating hurting myself.  I finally decided to reach out and ask for help, and I am grateful I did. FHE Health and The Shatterproof Program saved my life. If you are struggling, you don’t have to stay there. We can and will help you. Reach out today at 303.960.9819. https://fherehab.com/ I wear a bracelet on my wrist that says "Memento Mori". This ancient saying goes back to the time of Socrates. The literal translation means "Remember you will die." Yes, everything living on this planet will die at some point, including you and I. I look at this everyday and ponder if I am living the life I am supposed to be. Am I giving it my all. Am I giving back to my fellow humans the way I want to. If not, its up to me to make the change and not wait for someone else to do it. Suicide rates in this country and among first responders are staggering with no signs of slowing down unfortunately. I often wonder if the soul still suffers when someone takes their own life. My opinion is it does. I think those souls are shown a life of "What could have been" if they have kept going, had faith and reached out for help when they needed it.  Take a look at your life and dive deep. Are you living the best life you can right now. If not remember Memento Mori. Stay strong, Stay safe and see you next time. www.cjevolution.com Patrick

Criminal Justice Evolution Podcast: Microcast Monday - Organizational Culture

Hello everyone and welcome back to The CJEvolution Podcast. Thank you for listening to the show. If you are struggling, you don’t have to stay there. We can and will help you. Reach out today at 303.960.9819. https://fherehab.com/ Happy Monday everyone. I want to express my condolences to the family of Tyre Nichols. His death at the hands of law enforcement officers shocked the nation. This is not a reflection on the entire law enforcement profession as a whole.  Organizational culture played a key role in this horrific event, and in my opinion an investigation to the entire department needs to take place. My guess is that this is systemic within the agency and ultimately The Chief of Police is responsible for the culture of an organization, good or bad. What is the culture within your organization?  While the Chief was in front of the media preparing citizens before the release of the videos, the buck stops with the Chief.  Hopefully, justice will be served in this incident. Go out and do the best job you can and please be safe. www.cjevolution.com Patrick

Criminal Justice Evolution Podcast: John R. Robertson - Author of Run Towards The Roar - Transform Crisis and Change into an Opportunity to Thrive

Hello everyone and welcome back to the CJEvolution Podcast. Thank you so much for listening. If you are a first time listener, welcome. If you are a long time listener welcome back. Please share this show with family and friends and give us that 5-Star Rating and Review on Apple Podcasts.  A big thank you to YOU. The criminal justice professional. Whatever you are doing and wherever you are at THANK YOU for doing what you do. Remember you are honored, cherished and loved. Keep up the great work and be safe. Its a new year. If you are suffering this is your year. Its time to reach out and get the help you need and deserve. Reach out to FHE Health and Shatterproof for first responders. They helped me and I know they can help you. Reach out at 844-650-1399 or 303-960-9819. https://fherehab.com/services/first-responders/  Did you ever wonder if there was a different way to view really thriving and living? Author John R. Robertson did as he kept seeing people reacting to issues after the fact. He is the author of Run Towards The Roar - Transform Crisis and Change into The Opportunity to Thrive. When a “roar” happens in life there are normal fight, flight, freeze, and appease reactions but what would happen if we ran toward the roar instead of merely reacting?Instead of treating roars, storms, or crises as something to react to or try to avoid, we can plan for them so that we respond instead of reacting. Sometimes the theme of resilience, well-being, and thriving becomes so clinical, theoretical, or pie-in-the-sky that it is not practical or helpful. Like so many educational approaches, oftentimes the approach tends to be a transfer of information rather than transformation.Run Toward the Roar reframes thriving and resilience to find and focus on what you love so that you will be faithful and loyal, regardless of the roars that cross your path. This book is a way to think about thriving by using a different lens. One thing that author John R. Robertson has learned from the many first responders he has worked with is a quality they called ‘muscle memory’. The premise is simply where one trains so frequently that when they are faced with something challenging, they do not react, they respond. Their muscle memory takes over to the extent that they can react opposite to most normal (untrained) humans. They are able to run toward the roar instead of the normal reaction of running away from it. Such a great read and excellent Guest.  You can find John and his book here: https://runtowardtheroar.online/  https://www.amazon.com/Run-Toward-Roar-Transform-Opportunity/dp/1988925894    Stay tuned for more great episodes.   www.cjevolution.com   Patrick

Criminal Justice Evolution Podcast: Jimmy Keefe - Retired Firefighter and Shatterproof Team Member

Hello everyone and welcome back to the show. Thank you for listening. If you love this show please share it with family and friends and give us that 5-Star Rating and Review on Apple Podcasts. A special thank you to YOU. The criminal justice professional. You put it all on the line every day. You are a very special person. I hope you know that. Remember you have much support and remember you are loved. Please be safe and keep up the great work. Reach out today at 303.960.9819. https://fherehab.com/ People often ask me what makes FHE Health and Shatterproof for First Responders so special. I give them two responses. 1) Their unique program that is designed specifically for the first responder community, and 2) The amazing people that work in the Shatterproof Program. Most of the people on the Shatterproof Team are former First Responders or Military Veterans which means THEY GET IT. They have been where you are and reached out for help.  One of those amazing individuals is a good friend of mine, Jimmy Keefe. Jimmy Keefe, a retired firefighter and Resident Manager in Shatterproof FHE Health treatment program for first responders. Jimmy spent 27 years fighting fires in his hometown of New Brunswick, New Jersey. During that time, he witnessed 40 deaths and made some harrowing rescues. One of them was a five-year-old girl. By the time Keefe was able to pull her from the flames and carry her out of a burning building, she was unconscious, having endured third-degree burns that covered 72 percent of her body. At the time, Keefe was a young firefighter—just 22—and the traumatic memories of that night would haunt him years later. They would return in dreams, flashbacks and intense feelings of guilt and failure that he eventually tried to numb with drugs and alcohol. Jimmy eventually reached out for help and his treatment at Shatterproof, like me, saved his life.  Keefe is an advocate for treatment and recovery not just because he sees it every day in the lives of other first responders, but he understands how the trauma and depression with first responders work. Jimmy was an instrumental figure in my recovery at Shatterproof and I am honored and grateful to call him a good friend.  We dive deep in this show, and Jimmy talks openly about his journey.
