CJ Evolution Podcast: Microcast Monday: The Benefits of Sleep

Hello everyone and welcome back to the show. Special thanks to all the brave men and women who work in the criminal justice system. Thank you so much for your bravery and service to your communities and this great country. As you head into the new year I know many of you struggle with personal and professional obstacles in your life. As a former law enforcement professional I know first hand how difficult the job can be. For years I struggled until I sought out coaches and mentors that helped me through the tough times. I want to help you with my EVOLVE Personal Coaching. My message is simple. I help law enforcement and first responders who are overwhelmed with personal and professional obstacles to build self-confidence and resiliency so that they can become stronger and more happier in their lives. Go to https://www.cjevolution.com/personal-coaching/ and sign up for a FREE 45 Minute Discovery call. Let's get you on the road to a better you in 2020. I love coffee and I know a lot of you do too. Check out the products from Four Sigmatic. They have everything from cocoas to coffee. My personal favorite is the Lion's Mane Mushroom Coffee. It tastes like regular coffee, and its better for you. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. Head over to www.cjevolution.com and see the link to Four Sigmatic. On this Microcast Monday episode, I want to talk a little about the benefits of sleep. I remember as a first responder, I thought I could get by on 4-5 hours of sleep a night and I did for many years. I thought with a little sleep I would be operating at 100%. Wrong! Your body needs it's sleep and so much is connected with good sleep. Your health, Your mindset and your motivation are connected for starters. Here are some benefits of good sleep: 1) You will have a sharper brain - When you don't get enough sleep you might have problems remembering details and recalling events. 2) Mood boost - When you get enough sleep you are generally in a better mood. 3) Healthier Heart - When you sleep your blood pressure goes down. When you don't get enough sleep your blood pressure stays elevated. 4) Athletic Achievement - Lack of sleep robs you of your motivation, which gets you to the finish line. 5) Steadier blood sugar - Not getting enough sleep can increase your chances of diabetes. 6) Germ Fighting - Lack of sleep can affect the way your body fights off germs. You can get sick more often. 7) Weight control - When you are well rested, your are less hungry. Is too much sleep bad? Too much of anything isn't good for you. Research indicates you should get at least 6-8 hours of sleep a night. Herb had a successful military career in which became the only person ever to earn the Green Beret and Army Drill Sergeant of the Year award. Finishing up his military career he had doubts about leaving the military and becoming a civilian. The Army was the only thing he knew since enlisting at the age of 17. Like most veterans, the transition process was not easy for him, and he had bad days filled with self-doubt. However, after over 2,000 informational interviews, thousands of hours of internet research, and hundreds of hours of personal reflection, he found his way. He landed a job at a top-tier Management Consulting firm and a seat in the Executive MBA program at Cornell University. In his free time, Herb has mentored hundreds of transitioning service members.   Herb wrote the very popular book The Mission Transition. This book is for military members who are transitioning into the civilian world, maybe now and in the future. This book is not a checklist to follow for a soft landing upon exiting the military. There is no possible checklist, every service member’s situation is unique. What Herb has done is lay out a different approach and way of thinking for the transition. Instead of teaching you what to think he opens your eyes with how to think about the transition. Herb doesn’t sugar coat the process but reveals his failures in transition and demonstrates vulnerability with personal anecdotes from hanging up his uniform. The reality of transition. The hard questions you need to answer. Techniques to be successful. Ways to succeed and others destined for failure. Herb is also an ambassador of Green Marines. The Green Marines believe we need stop relying on the Government and corporations to make changes on our behalf. We need to stand up and take account of our own actions, our own choices. Be responsible for our own future and make changes from the base up. This is a generation where the peoples voice is stronger than ever, and we have the potential to make real changes that matter. The Green Marines welcome everyone and celebrate them at their best. We help others get out and reconnect with the planet one micro mission at a time. The Green Marines provide inspiration, aspiration and education all in one place. We advocate and encourage positive solutions to modern life. We believe in small, impactful action and that small steps aggregate to make global change. The Green Marines provide micro solutions from across a diverse community of advocates. We

I want to help you in this new year learn to overcome, achieve and succeed in your personal and professional life with my EVOLVE Personal Coaching. Sign up for a FREE 45minute Discovery Call here: https://www.cjevolution.com/personal-coaching/ For the rest of this great day I want you to think about and reflect on what I am about to tell you. Forgive yourself. Forgive yourself for making those mistakes you have make with your personal and professional life. Unless you forgive yourself first, it will be very hard for you to move forward and be successful. Here are some ways to help you. 1) Remember that it's ok to feel guilty, but understand there is a difference between guilt and shame. Guilt serves a purpose, shame does not. 2) Admit you messed up - We all mess up at points, but stop blaming others. 3) Apologize to anyone you may have hurt. 4) Imagine what forgiveness would feel like. 5) Write yourself an apology. 6) Learn from your mistakes - Stop doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. That is insane. 7) Be Patient - Don't rush things, especially the feelings of others. First you can't control it and when you rush things you will probably make them worse. 8) Don't try to change other people - You can't. But you can change yourself. 9) Practice what you preach.   Reference https://www.oprahmag.com/life/a26028888/how-to-forgive-yourself/   I hope you have a great rest of your Monday and week. Michelle is widely respected for her law enforcement expertise, and commitment to the care and protection of children, and even more loved for her unrelenting positivism, passion, and dedication to the community. A strong proponent of community policing, and “building villages” to instill, nurture and foster a strong, fundamental support for children, her zeal for bettering the lives of others took on an amazing life of its own. She was inspired to develop the L.E.A.P. (Leadership, Empowerment, Awareness, Protection) Program in 2013, which offers a solution-focused method for connecting the police with the schools and parents as a pathway to children’s success in four areas: happiness, health, safety, and resilience. Michelle’s method for “policing youth” is astoundingly authentic, trauma-informed, and mindful of cultural biases and age/gender stereotypes. She believes in seeking out the root cause of risky/criminal behaviors, as this is the only way one can truly “protect and serve.” Michelle’s personal and professional stories of inspiration cultivate a re-dedication to policing as a public service rooted in compassion and greater understanding. Michelle has received numerous accolades and awards for her work, and her thought-provoking conversations have been shared across the nation. As a Massachusetts Certified Teacher and Children’s Yoga/Mindfulness Instructor, Michelle has used her diverse skill set to become a leading voice in a most unique combination of community and youth policing, police leadership, education, mindfulness, work/life balance, and parenting. When she’s not working and changing the world for our kids, she’s home with her family (husband, daughter, three bonus children, and the most zen dog, a Siberian Husky named Denali).   You can find Michelle here:   https://michellepalladini.com/   https://www.linkedin.com/in/michelle-palladini-b45b8310a/   Stay tuned for more great guests on The CJEvolution Podcast www.cjevolution.com     Patrick

I’m here to help you come up with sustainable, long-term solutions so you can start living the life you’re meant to live. I have many years of experience working in one of the most difficult professions in the world – law enforcement. I have coached, mentored and trained some of the best police officers, first-responders, and numerous law enforcement professionals. Through my top ranked podcast, I’ve been blessed to have so many great and inspirational guests on the show that I have learned from over the years. I’m here to pass my education and experience on to you. Sign up for a FREE Discovery Call here: https://www.cjevolution.com/personal-coaching/ Big shout out to our sponsor Detectachem. This great company is helping keep our brave men and women safer through mobile threat detection that fits in the palm of your hand. See how they can help your agency. See their link at www.cjevolution.com I always love having former LEO’s on the show that have retired after a great law enforcement career and continue to give back as successful entrepreneurs. Marc Neal is such a person, and he is on the show. He is the founder of Onyx Training Group. Onyx Training Group is a law enforcement and corporate communication, principles, and decision-making training company with an online presence, but a direct participation focus. The information presented in the courses is the result of my 20 police career and over 2 decades of teaching officers and civilians in various disciplines, including advanced tactics and cross cultural diversity and anti-biased policing strategies. Marc believes in the profession of law enforcement and does everything he can to help increase its image and perception, while also helping to increase the abilities of the officers who he works with. Marc doesn’t think policing is without its issues, and while being realistic, he is also idealistic in that policing is fundamentally critical to the quality of life in our society. He also believes that agencies must select, train and then sustain good quality people as the Servant Warriors of their communities. Part of sustaining good people is observing the intrinsic human value in all people. Not just is lip service, but in observable action. When organizations display a belief and support in their people, their people, being full, can project that belief and support to their community. Onyx Training focuses on building that feeling of sustenance, which translates into ability, which increases confidence, which produces success. CJ Evolution Podcast: Microcast Monday: Eliminate your "Us against them Mentality"

Hello everyone and welcome back to Microcast Monday. Happy Thanksgiving Week! Special thanks to all the brave men and women who work in the criminal justice field. Thank you for what you do. Keep up the great work! I am so excited that my book EVOLVE is finally here. You might have seen advanced copies floating around, but now it's available for you! This microbook is filled with inspiration, motivation and successful tips and suggestions to help you both personally and professionally. If you want an autographed copy of the book reach out to me through social media - Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. If you want a FREE eBook copy of the book head over to www.cjevolution.com Special thanks to our sponsor Detectachem. This amazing company is helping keep our first responders safe by offering mobile threat detection for the palm of your hand. Detecting drugs and explosives. Check out their link at www.cjevolution.com and see who they can help you protect your troops. In this episode of Microcast Monday I want to take a moment and talk about the "us versus them mentality." I had this mindset for many years where I thought if someone didn't work in the criminal justice field, or didn't have a gun and badge then they couldn't trusted. Over the years I learned how detrimental that mindset was, at least for me. Sooner or later you will leave this great profession and then what? Maybe you want to work in the private sector? Maybe you want to start your own business? Do you think the mindset of "us versus them" is going to help you succeed? Probably not. You have realize that most people are good and we deal with only the fraction of people that are doing bad. When this happens over and over our mindset becomes jaded. However, you can begin to recognize it and take steps to change or mindset. I am not saying compromise your officer safety, but I am saying it's good to develop and cultivate friendships outside of law enforcement. If you have the above mindset how did it develop? Do you know? Write it down and then realize that these are not reflective of society as a whole. Remember you can always change your mindset. Happy Thanksgiving Week and everyone be safe! Have a great week and go conquer your day. www.cjevolution.com   Patrick

Their services are provided at NO COST to the department and a minimal cost to the client. There programs can also be customized to meet the goals and unique needs of any agency. Again, special thanks to all of our veterans. Here are some ways you can show appreciation to our brave men and women. 1) Show up - There are many events to celebrate veterans. Pick one and show your support. Veterans love this!   2) Donate - There is always a need to more resources. There are many organizations that you can donate to that support veterans.   3) Ask a veteran about their service - We all know someone who has served and today is a great day to ask them about it. Remember to be supportive but not intrusive. Some vets don't like talking about certain things.   4) Write a veteran - If you know a veteran, send them a card or an e-card to show support. Don't know a veteran? Look up the closest military installation and send a card there. These small acts are very appreciated.   5) Remember not to confuse Veterans Day with Memorial Day - There is a difference. Veterans day is a day to honor ones who have served and who are still with us. Memorial day is to honor the brave who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Combing the two and diminish the significance of both .   6) Get outdoors with a veteran - Spending time outdoors with a veteran or a veterans family can improve physical and mental health and boots emotional well-being. For more ways to show appreciation check here:   https://www.military.com/veterans-day/8-ways-to-express-appreciation-on-veterans-day.html   Have a great Monday! Specifically, how are you doing in the following areas: 1) Health - Everything revolves around your health. When your health suffers, everything else will too. Are you keeping the promises that you made to yourself or others at the beginning of the year? We generally don't focus on our health until something goes wrong. Remember it's never to late to start a new path. 2) Finances - How are your finances? Are you on the right path? Are you achieving the goals you set for yourself or your family at the beginning of the year? Remember its never too late to start a new good habit.   3) Relationships - Relationships are the key to personal and professional success. Cultivate and nourish your relationships. Are you on track this year?   4) Career - Are you on track with your career goals that you made at the beginning of the year? If yes, great if not what happened? Remember you still have the rest of the year to go! You might have more categories to add to this, but these are some of the most important I use for my personal check ups. Remember that you need to take care of yourself FIRST in order to take care of others. If you need a personal coach, I can help. Bronnie Ware is an Australian Nurse who worked for many years in Palliative Care, where she cared for patients in the last 12 weeks of their lives. She then took her experiences and what she recorded over the years and wrote a book called The 5 Regrets of the Dying. Here are the 5 Regrets as witnessed by Bronnie Ware:   1) "I wish I would have had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me." 2)  "I wish I hadn't worked so hard." - I know you have to pay the bills and provide, but remember that your children go up fast. Relationships and love are what matters in the end. 3)  "I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings." 4)  "I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends." 5)  "I wish I had let myself be happier."   Go out there and conquer the day - Remember to live your true life and not a life in regret.   stay tuned for more great shows.   www.cjevolution.com   Patrick   Reference to show: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2012/feb/01/top-five-regrets-of-the-dying Top 5 Regrets of the Dying - Bronnie Ware https://www.amazon.com/s?k=top+5+regrets+of+the+dying&crid=14OZUAH23HA9J&sprefix=Top+5+reg%2Caps%2C245&ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_9

CJEvolution Podcast: Terry Tucker - Former Police Officer turned Motivational Speaker & Coach

Hello everyone and welcome back to the show. Thanks to all the brave men and women who protect us every day. Thank you so much for what you do. Keep up the great work! You have much support! In this ever changing and dangerous environment, I am glad that a company like Detectachem is helping protect our brave men and women by officer treat detection that fits in the palm of your hand. Detecting illicit drugs and explosives. Check their link out on www.cjevolution.com If you love coffee, and I know most of you do, then you will love the products from Four Sigmatic. They have great products you will love – most notably their Lions Mane Mushroom Coffee. Check out their link at www.cjevolution.com All the guests that come on the show are amazing. They are uplifting, inspiring and motivational. But, every once in awhile a guest will come on that really humbles me. As I was talking to my next guest, Terry Tucker, I was thinking of all the things that I complain about in my life and I was ashamed. You see, Terry has cancer. He was diagnosed with skin cancer a few years back, fought it off, only for it to come back. In fact, doctors are telling Terry he has about a year to live. Yet, Terry has an amazing attitude that centers around self-improvement, gratitude and continuing to give back to his fellow man. Terry has reinvented himself frequently over his professional career. After he graduated from The Citadel, he was employed in the Marketing Department at the corporate headquarters of Wendy’s International in Dublin, Ohio. From there, he worked in hospital administration for Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. After getting married, he became the Customer Service Manager for an academic publishing company in Santa Barbara, California. Subsequently, he was a police officer in Cincinnati, Ohio. Following a family move to Texas, he started a school security consulting business and coached high school basketball in Houston. Each time he took on a new job, he had to develop new skills and faced different challenges. There was always a significant learning curve with each new position.  Terry later started Motivational Check, for a simple reason. When he was a recruit in the Cincinnati Police Academy, it was a phrase any of his classmates could shout if they needed encouragement, motivation or support. The response from the class was to answer with a loud “84,” signifying our Recruit Class number and letting the person needing the reassurance know that they were all there for each other. If you are besieged with anything in your life, know there are people available, willing, and able to help you. Terry understands what it is like to fight for your life. If you do not quit, you can never be defeated. However, the responsibility for altering your life is entirely up to YOU. Whining, complaining, and blaming others for your plight will not enhance your experience. Motivation alone will not cause you to progress. YOU must want to make the change and commit to it every minute of every day. There are no days off when attempting to make significant and lasting improvements.  Such a great and inspirational episode you are going to love.   Find Terry here: https://www.motivationalcheck.com/   Stay tuned for more great episodes on the CJEvolution Podcast.   www.cjevolution.com   Patrick

Even the most successful people in the world still have coaches that help them on the daily basis. Here are some indications that you need a life coach. 1) You feel lost - We all have been here before. Maybe you feel lost right now. A life coach can help you correct course and get you on the right path. 2) You doubt yourself - A life coach can help you find clarity in your life and give you that confidence you need to realizing your dreams. 3) You have a vision but no path - A life coach can help you with a plan of action. 4) You want to change professions - A life coach can help with your confidence and assurance so you can take that step forward. 5) Improve your health - A health coach can help you accomplish this. 6) You don't have time to waste - We are all busier than ever and you don't have time to waste. Working with a coach can save time because you will come up solutions faster and keep on your path. 7) You want to make more money - A good life coach can guide you in ways to make more money so you can spend time on what you want in life. 8) Are you stressed - We all get stressed at one point or another trying to do things by ourselves. A coach can teach you relaxation techniques and exercises that can help you eliminate stress. 9) You need a confidence boost - Everyone can use a tune up in this area. A life coach can work with you on self-assertion and support you as you take risks that make your life better and help your dreams come true. Eric decodes faces and facial expressions similarly to the work of a body language expert. Whether we like it or not, our face and micro expressions can tell a world about us. Eric has worked with CEOs to transform their companies and law enforcement consultation for years. By concentrating on cues like behavior, gestures, facial expressions, and micro expressions, face reading adds a new layer to police interrogation.     We all have the intuitive ability to read and interpret the feelings and expressions of those around us. There is a reason a poker face needs to be mastered and why facial micro expressions can indicate the difference between truth and lies. Using a combination of three different schools of face reading, along with a scientific accuracy to detect the most fleeting micro expressions, master face reader Eric Standop is able to read personality, character, emotions, and even the state of a person’s health—all from simply glancing at their face.  With the release of his book, READ THE FACE, Eric is offering his sought-after readings to the media to show just how much your face can tell the world about you.  Check out Eric’s TED talk here:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO4l0nLWH7o   Find Eric here:   https://www.readtheface.com/   https://www.readtheface.com/team/eric-standop     Stay tuned for more great episodes on the CJEvolution Podcast       www.cjevolution.com     Patrick

Head over to www.extradutysolutions.com and tell them Patrick from CJEvolution sent you. I wanted to take a few moments today and talk about believing in yourself. I know we have talked about this before, but I recently spoke with an officer from an agency in the mid west who is thinking about leaving the profession after 14 years. He wants to try other things. However, he believes he can't do anything else. This type of mindset will never get you what you want. If you don't believe in yourself who will? When I retired I was scared to death, but I knew deep down everything would work out and it has. I wouldn't allow the naysayers and my fear to dominate my thoughts and you shouldn't either.  I believed in myself and do everyday. You have to develop that mindset. The Officer I was speaking with also had people close to him telling him he couldn't do anything else. This is BS. Don't allow others to sabotage your dreams. We have this one life only. You don't want to be like many who regret a lot in the end. I gave the officer some other tips and suggestions and he told me he is going to take that big step to go after his dreams. That is AWESOME! Need a coach for your personal or professional life? I am here to help. My EVOLVE Coaching is calling for you! We all have times when are confidence takes a hit. We don't feel like we are up to the task. However, as first-responders it's so important that we not only build our confidence, but we also sustain that confidence over time. Here are some tips to help you do so. 1) Think of a time that you felt really confident.  What are you confident at? Imagine you were confident right now, how does that feel to you? 2) As you remember feeling confident, you will start to feel confident. Where does that confidence start? Your head, your stomach, your feet? 3) Imagine you can see your confident feeling. What color is your feeling? Make this feel brighter and stronger. 4) Does your confident feeling, feel hot our cold? Double the temperature of your confident feeling. 5) In what direction does your feeling spin in? Whatever direction spin it faster and faster.   How much more confident to you feel now? Better? Good!   Go forth and conquer the day.   www.cjevolution.com   Patrick
