I know I do sometimes, but what is Luck really? Luck is defined as "success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one's own actions." While I do believe that sometimes things do happen by chance, I believe you can attract more luck by THE ACTIONS YOU TAKE. The most successful people are viewed as "lucky" because of the ACTIONS they have TAKEN in their life. Remember that NOTHING falls into your lap. We live in an instant gratification society, but in the real world ACTION must be take in order to  become successful and hence MORE LUCKY.  Remember you can control how much luck comes your way. He was also a Security Forces Phoenix Raven with the unique identifier of #1173. Michael honorably separated from the Air Force as a Captain in 2004.Immediately after the Air Force, Michael was hired by the Walnut Creek Police Department where he served in a variety of assignments including: Patrol Officer, Driver Training Instructor (EVOC) Field Training Officer (FTO), SIU Detective, Undercover CA DOJ Narcotic Task Force Agent (Contra Costa County), Public Information Officer (PIO) and Patrol Sergeant.Michael was awarded the Walnut Creek PD Distinguished Service Medal in 2014 for his heroic and life-saving actions during a Fatal Officer Involved Shooting in 2012.Michael ultimately medically retired in 2018. He is now a Peer Volunteer at the West Coast Post Trauma Retreat (WCPR) and an Ambassador for Save A Warrior (SAW).Michael is a dedicated advocate for awareness, prevention, education, training on Post Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI) and First Responder Suicide Prevention. In his book, Chris applies his street-cop tactics and interrogation skills against a lethal insurgency that had infected Iraq. A group of retired Special Forces soldiers and law enforcement experts came together to form the counterinsurgency group codenamed “Phoenix Team.” Exposing the corruption of both the Iraqi and US governments, the team faced serious setbacks and challenges. Brooklyn to Baghdad shows the effectiveness of Phoenix Team, their ability to process forensic evidence and human intelligence gleaned through interrogations at the point of capture to provide direct targeting for follow-on missions. Unfortunately, sometimes we fall flat with those skills and it can cost a case, individual and agency reputations and often relationships with the community. My next guest is Brian Leslie. He is coercive interrogation expert and former Chief of Police. Brian is also the owner of Criminal Case Consultants Inc. According to Brian, identifying patterns of racial targeting, flawed investigations, excessive use of coercive interrogation techniques that force questionable confessions, coercive interview methods that use narrative integration to extract favorable witness statements, and faulty processes identifying suspects is unfortunately common in the law enforcement profession. This pattern demonstrates how police culture going unchecked can create dangerous factions in police departments that ultimately affect the community. Police officers have a tough job to do, but this should never excuse destructive or criminal behavior for any reason. Having an understanding and relationship with a community allows officers to put a face on those they police, not a mask. Many officers in police departments across America do take their oath seriously with pride and perform their sworn duties flawlessly. These officers work each day in their communities with no incidents and do make a difference. Most of these officers are seldomly in the media and maintain virtual anonymity but unfortunately wear a negative stain from those that fail their communities. A great and informative interview. His name is James Gagliano. currently serves as a law enforcement analyst and policing methodology subject matter expert for CNN, where he provides on-air analyses of complex law enforcement and counterterror matters. An adjunct assistant professor and doctoral candidate at St. John’s University in Queens, NY, he is a sought-after speaker on criminal justice, homeland security and organizational leadership matters, and delivers keynote addresses for corporate clients and in academic settings. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund (LELDF).Prior to joining CNN, Gagliano served 25 years with the FBI. During his career with FBI, he was appointed to a variety of investigative, tactical resolution, crisis management, undercover, mid-level and senior management positions, including assignment to the FBI’s elite counterterror unit, the Hostage Rescue Team (HRT), and as the Senior Team Leader of the FBI New York Field Division’s SWAT Team. During the Global War on Terrorism, between 2002 and 2003, he deployed to Afghanistan three separate times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was awarded FBI’s second highest award for valor, the Medal of Bravery, for his SWAT Team’s actions in June of 1993. Between 2008 and 2012, he created and supervised the Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force, a multi-agency federal task force that disrupted and dismantled violent street gangs in the upstate New York region. In one of his final FBI assignments, he studied Spanish language at US State Department, then served as the deputy legal attaché and acting legal attaché at the United States Embassy in México City, México, prior to retiring in 2016.A 1987 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and US Army veteran, he was commissioned as an Infantry Officer, serving as a light infantry platoon leader and company executive officer in the 10th Mountain Division, while stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort Drum, New York between 1988 and 1991. His military awards include the Airborne, Air Assault, Jungle Expert and Expert Infantryman’s badges, as well as the Ranger tab.
