Criminal Justice Evolution Podcast: Jimmy Keefe - Retired Firefighter and Shatterproof Team Member

Hello everyone and welcome back to the show. Thank you for listening. If you love this show please share it with family and friends and give us that 5-Star Rating and Review on Apple Podcasts. A special thank you to YOU. The criminal justice professional. You put it all on the line every day. You are a very special person. I hope you know that. Remember you have much support and remember you are loved. Please be safe and keep up the great work.  I struggled. I was in a dark place for a long time. I was in pain, and I masked it with alcohol.  I was contemplating hurting myself.  I finally decided to reach out and ask for help, and I am grateful I did. FHE Health and The Shatterproof Program saved my life. If you are struggling, you don’t have to stay there. We can and will help you. Reach out today at 303.960.9819. https://fherehab.com/ People often ask me what makes FHE Health and Shatterproof for First Responders so special. I give them two responses. 1) Their unique program that is designed specifically for the first responder community, and 2) The amazing people that work in the Shatterproof Program. Most of the people on the Shatterproof Team are former First Responders or Military Veterans which means THEY GET IT. They have been where you are and reached out for help.  One of those amazing individuals is a good friend of mine, Jimmy Keefe. Jimmy Keefe, a retired firefighter and Resident Manager in Shatterproof FHE Health treatment program for first responders. Jimmy spent 27 years fighting fires in his hometown of New Brunswick, New Jersey. During that time, he witnessed 40 deaths and made some harrowing rescues. One of them was a five-year-old girl. By the time Keefe was able to pull her from the flames and carry her out of a burning building, she was unconscious, having endured third-degree burns that covered 72 percent of her body. At the time, Keefe was a young firefighter—just 22—and the traumatic memories of that night would haunt him years later. They would return in dreams, flashbacks and intense feelings of guilt and failure that he eventually tried to numb with drugs and alcohol. Jimmy eventually reached out for help and his treatment at Shatterproof, like me, saved his life.  Keefe is an advocate for treatment and recovery not just because he sees it every day in the lives of other first responders, but he understands how the trauma and depression with first responders work. Jimmy was an instrumental figure in my recovery at Shatterproof and I am honored and grateful to call him a good friend.  We dive deep in this show, and Jimmy talks openly about his journey. Find Jimmy here: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008700601697  https://fherehab.com/learning/normal-life-after-trauma  https://fherehab.com/    Stay tuned for more great episodes on The CJEvolution Podcast   www.cjevolution.com   Patrick

If you are struggling, you don’t have to stay there. We can and will help you. Reach out today at 303.960.9819 https://fherehab.com/services/first-responders/  Be honest with yourself. You might be able to fool people around you but that internal voice inside of you encourages you to be honest with yourself. I know its hard. We don't want to admit our faults or weaknesses but when you are completely honest with yourself it's like a weight gets lifted off your chest.  As humans we want to please others. We want recognition and praise. There is nothing wrong with that but if you are struggling with personal and professional challenges you need to conduct an internal search warrant on yourself and above all be honest with where you are in your life. The bottom line is we can all be better and improve. But it starts with taking a long and often hard look at ourselves. You can do it. I believe in you and the journey you are about to take. Chin up - You got this! I hope you have a great and productive day. Please be safe. Stay tuned for more great episodes on the Top Ranked CJEvolution Podcast. www.cjevolution.com   Patrick

To be happy. Now that looks different among people, but happiness is happiness. The first step is to accept the reality you are in. There is no growth in living in the past. Sure your past is a part of you, but YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY YOUR PAST. The future you have always wanted awaits you. Live in the moment. Accept where you are right now and take steps to improve your life. Stop blaming others for where you are at right now. Take responsibility and if you need help remember you are not alone. You are never alone.  Go out and conquer your day and reach out to me at www.cjevolution.com Patrick

A special thanks to you, the criminal justice professional. Wherever your are at and whatever you are doing thank you for doing it. Remember you are honored, cherished and loved. Keep up the great work If you are struggling with addiction, mental health challenges, or both, please reach out. My life changed for the better when I took that step forward. I am so grateful for FHE Health and The Shatterproof Program for First Responders. Reach out at 844-650-1399 or contact me directly at 303-960- 9819.  https://fherehab.com/services/first-responders/ Check out my Criminal Justice Evolution YouTube Channel at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdnSgwX_KYND8GGh7USv0tw Kurt Dabb is a retired law enforcement professional with over two decades of experience. In 2021 Kurt was forced into a medical retirement and was told he was no longer qualified to be a cop anymore. Kurt suffered from PTSD and Addiction Challenges. Like most of us who face challenges, Kurt was devastated. Kurt went through dark times, but eventually came out after receiving treatment for his challenges. The key to this is that Kurt came forward. Something most of us are unwilling to do. Kurt is still trying to figure it out but he knows he is not alone and his recovery is paramount in his life.  Kurt is a big advocate of first responder health and wellness and alternate forms of therapy. A great discussion with survivor.  You can find Kurt here: https://www.kold.com/2019/11/07/going-distance-fight-depression/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/kurt-dabb/   Stay tuned for more great episodes on The CJEvolution Podcast www.cjevolution.com   Patrick
