In the last 28 years of law enforcement, I have had the privilege of serving in various roles throughout my career including the DWI task force, Tactical Response Unit (TRU), Street Crimes Assistance Team (SCAT), Field Training Officer. This experience, lead me to the development/ founding officer of the San Antonio Police Department Mental Health Unit in 2008.


I am the primary subject in the two-time Emmy nominated award-winning HBO documentary, Ernie and Joe: Crisis Cops. Emmy winner for best editing. I’ve had the privilege of being featured on ABC’s Nightline with Byron Pitts and the NBC documentary, A Different Kind of Force. I co-authored Amazon’s Best Seller, Mental Health and De-escalation, A Training Guide for Police Professionals. Additionally, I’m a contributing author to the Amazon best-selling Mental Health category book, Police Mental Barricade.

With my expertise, I am excited to announce my new position with STRAC as their Crisis Response and Resiliency Manager.
